Mikill Pane ft. Joanne Moore – Learning to Swim

(Lyrics are below the video – excuse the spelling and grammar, I was typing quickly and can’t be arsed to edit it)

With a big splash he was hurled into the deep,
before he knew what happened the pool floor turned into a sea bed,
a thousand life jackets on the surface could he reach them?
if he couldn’t he would never breath again.

He had to empty all his pockets
He had to be a bit lighter
His struggle to the top was going to be a big fight but
if he wasn’t dragged to his death by material things
he stood a better chance he really could win

so with that he took his wallet, his keys and his jewellery
and let them sink thinking fuck me what a fool I’ve been
none of you have helped me since I fell into the water
and only now I’ve learnt I couldn’t tell when I bought you

it’s what’s inside that turn the ordinary to survivors
soldiers never go to war wearing designer wear
so it’s either throw away the dope clobber
or be the best dressed down in davy jones locker

((Tonight, you’re standing on the brink
((you start to feel when you can’t think
((you learn to rise when others sink
((and you’re starting to learn how to swim

He was still under there in his underwear
He badly needed to come up for air
but as he swam up with nothing on but the bare essentials
the lack of oxygen to his brain must have sent him nearly mental

cause every time he scoped the abyss
he swore he saw a different fucking mermaid blowing him a kiss
he closed his eyes and tried to focus on rising
but opened them one of the ho’s swam beside him and spoke to him
it wasn’t vocal or miming
she’d opened his mind
and placed it inside him
if you go down and get me everything you chucked away
I swear babe today’ll be your lucky day

she kissed him, breathed life to his lungs
now he kind of owed her so he dived for the junk that
he dashed cause he thought that she was giving him her heart
but she tricked him now the mug was swimming with the sharks

((Tonight, you’re standing on the brink
((you start to feel when you can’t think
((you learn to rise when others sink
((and you’re starting to learn how to swim
((You’re standing on the brink
((you start to feel when you can’t think
((you learn to rise when others sink
((it means you’re starting to learn how to swim

Now he was covered in teeth marks from a biting son of a bitch
that must have been the hungriest fish that he’d ever come across
Our hero hadn’t lost it
he’d won with no weapons he had done it with his fists
he wanted his revenge on the mermaid she had set him up after all
so it was only right the girl pay but
then he will forget her
the kick for his life it isn’t over yet
so I’ve got bigger fish to fry
can’t leave life alone
the world needs me
he rose and rose it soon began to feel easy
poked his head through and gasped for air in the sea breeze
he felt so relaxed, must have been the sea weed
he grabbed a life jacket to keep himself afloat
then he swum for the horizon
not seeking any boat
no a different idea
crossed his mind altogether
he’d go and live on his own desert island forever

((Tonight, you’re standing on the brink
((you start to feel when you can’t think
((you learn to rise when others sink
((and you’re starting to learn how to swim
((You’re standing on the brink
((you start to feel when you can’t think
((you learn to rise when others sink
((it means you’re starting to learn how to swim
